Projected by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, Casa Amatller is more than a modernist catalan jewel, is like knowing Antoni Amatller life, chocolatier businessman and art collector.
Located between Aragó Street and Consell de Cent, we can find it in the Manzana de la Discordia in the popular Paseo de Gracia. It's called like this because of the "professional contention" between the most important architects of the Catalan Modernism: Antoni Gaudí, Domènech i Montaner and Puig i Cadafalch. Being the last one who designed this house for Antoni Amatller.
Casa Amatller's facade is peculiar. Romanesque, baroque and modernist elements are masterfully combined onto a "floral tapestry" in this mansion of gothic style. But the most remarkable thing is the stepped finishing of the superior part. This made (and make) Casa Amatller a singular and unique building of the era.
Once inside, Casa Amatller allows you to know the life style of the businessman. You will visit rooms, dressings rooms with the furniture and decorations of the era. Despite of his job in the chocolate factory, Amatller found time for his artistic fondness, for this reason with the ticket of Casa Amatller include the collection of archaeological glass and his passion for the photography.
Finally, the still opened store of the chocolate factory, is situated under the house and you can finish your visit buying all kind of chocolates.

Casa Amatller is preserved by the Fundación Amatller de Arte Hispánico, created by Teresa Amatller Cros, daughter of Antoni Amatller.
The foundation preserve and spread the house and its collections. The restorations that have been made in the house have respected the original spirit.
But there are more things, the foundation also study and project the hispanic art. For this, it counts with thousands of photographic resources and a specialized library.
Inside the library there are works of the catalan and hispanic art. The foundation also gather historian experts of the hispanic art and they put in common ideas and new concepts of the subject.
