Visit the art gallery of the Orangerie and discover in-depth paintings by Monet and other artists of impressionism and post-impressionism.
Discover the history behind the great canvases of Claude Monet's "Les nymphéas" collection, which make up the main exhibition of this museum, located in the Garden of the Tuileries of Paris, in the Place de la Concorde.
You have an appointment with modern art in the heart of Paris, admiring the prestigious collections of Monet and Jean Walter and Paul Guillaume.
After the First World War, Claude Monet offered the French State a series of canvases as a congratulation for the victory. The artist simply asked that they should be placed in a space that was suitable for their conservation. For this, the old building of the Orangerie was destined.
This building was built in 1853 and its initial mission was to serve as a greenhouse for oranges, hence its name. Luminous and well ventilated, this building had, at the discretion of Monet, the perfect conditions to show off its wide collection of canvases called "Les Nymphéas" (The Water Lilies), a collection that will occupy, to this day, a large part of the building.
Subsequently, the museum has been acquiring artworks of impressionist and post-impressionist authors thanks to the collections of Paul Guillaume and Jean Walter composed by artists such as Cézanne, Matisse, Modigliani, Picasso or Renoir among many other exponents of the Impressionist movement.
The Musée de l'Orangerie is a unique space and a must for all lovers of this technique inspired by the French painter Claude Monet.
Visit the home of the Water Lilies of Monet collection at a price of less than € 10, which will avoid queues (although you will have to pass a security control) an inspiring journey through nineteenth-century France.
The Orangerie Museum also has reduced rates for young people from the European Union and large families, which is a fantastic opportunity to involve young people in Impressionist art through the vision of renowned authors.
