The emperor Caracalla, Marco Aurelio Antonino Basiano ordered the construction of the imperial thermal baths with the name of Termas Antoninas. It receives this name by its relation with the Antonina dynasty, family that governed from year 96 to 192 d.C. the Roman Empire.
The citizens went to the Baths of Caracalla regularly to use the private showers, since in the Roman town they did not have them. It was such a large space that it had a full occupation of 1,500 people of all classes; soldiers, old people, children, slaves ... Above all, they went there to chat and even close deals. It was such a large enclosure that there was room for a library, taverns, and beautiful gardens to walk around.

In the year 537, the thermal baths were no longer used; the aqueducts that supplied the city with water and its valuable structures were demolished by the barbarians. In the year 847 part of the building was destroyed when an earthquake struck the city. Today, after the looting of the barbarians and the earthquake suffered, part of the buildings, walls, arches and windows are still standing.
