Piazzale San Paolo, 1, 00146 Roma RM, Italia
The Basilica of St. Paul of Outside the Walls, the second largest basilica in Rome (only behind that of San Pedro), is already part of the quartet of major Catholic basilicas.
It is also a "surviving" building that overcame a terrible fire in 1823 but miraculously kept all its treasures intact. The reconstruction faithfully followed the style of the fourth century so you can enjoy this wonderful construction as it was conceived.
St. Paul was erected in the fourth century on the tomb of the apostle, executed in the Christian persecutions in the time of Nero. What began as a small church has been enlarged and embellished to become the second largest basilica in all of Rome.
Its 150-column golden atrium welcomes you to the building, recreate yourself in the marvelous cloister of the 13th century and then enter the basilica where mosaic remains of the ancient basilica are still preserved, the Paschal chandelier decorated with scenes from the Passion, the Ciborium of Arnofo di Cambio, which survived the fire and the tomb of the apostle.
In addition, you can find portraits of all the popes who have passed through the Catholic Church and there is the possibility of visiting its large gallery or the archaeological site where the tomb of San Pablo is located.
Visit this World Heritage building and discover the secrets it hides.
You have two types of tickets, in the price of both the audio guide is available in English, Italian, Spanish, French and German. There are no time limits for visiting the basilica.
The whole basilica is accessible except for the archaeological zone.
*Once you have acquired the admission ticket, any changes are not allowed and the amount paid will not be reimbursed under any circumstances.
